"Amy’s plane was approaching the gate at the Cleveland Airport when she toggled her phone off Airplane Mode. Sitting next to her daughter Grace, Amy sent a text to Jason’s phone at 3:49 EST. She wrote: 'Just landed in dreary Ohio. I missed a call from Michael Smith. Everything OK?' Moments later, her screen lit up with a call."

"Jason had current paralysis from the umbilicus down, multiple fractures on the right side ribs and clavicle, and he was severely hypotensive. Also, he had a collapsed lung and a chest full of blood. His oxygen level was low and his breathing was labored. In industry parlance, it was spinal cord injury, spinal shock, respiratory failure, and critical polytrauma. Jon recognized some of that vocabulary. Michael knew every single word."

Denver International Airport, CO: The door where Jon Bucciarelli first picked up Amy while Jason was in surgery. Eric and Amy would come and go from this door many, many times.
