Chapter 27

SOLA

Jason and Amy on the Mount of Olives overlooking Kidron Valley and Mt. Zion. Jerusalem, Israel, 2016.

"On the night before He died, after the Passover meal, Jesus and His disciples went out and crossed the Kidron Valley, ascended the Mount of Olives to the Garden of Gethsemane. While His disciples fell asleep, Jesus prayed fervently that God the Father would take this cup of suffering away. But there was no other way . . . Up on the Mount of Olives, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus knew that coming down that mountain meant that He would become the sacrificial Lamb of God."

Jason and Amy in the mountains of Israel.

"So how do we carry on, when we come crashing down the mountain? When life leaves us a crumpled heap of broken bones and broken dreams and broken promises? When we can barely breathe, feel completely numb, and are paralyzed by fear? When the arc of life changes in an instant? We press on because we remember that Jesus came down the mountain for us! As He came down the mountain, our sins were forgiven. All of our shame was covered. God’s wrath against sin and evil was satisfied in Jesus’ death, the sacrificial Lamb of God."

Hallelujah and Amen. Soli Deo Gloria.
